I loved the way his tail whips around and how wide his mouth opens.

Yup, and the fact that his mouth can open up on both sides (not just the right side)

It's getting very quiet around here. I hope the roboreptile didn't go extinct / get canned?

Ok, new article on the net. Here is a link:

http://www.gizmag.com.au/go/5664/

Looking at the picture of the roboreptile featured in this article, I'm guessing that the hind legs can move in two planes so it can turn in place. Looks like mobility and agility are significantly upped.
The picture also shows one front leg up and one down. In previous videos, the roboreptile moves one leg up and one down when it turns its head left or right. Do you think it moves its front legs when walking/running since that would make it truly quadrapedal in motion? In the previous videos it seemed that it would only use its hind legs to propel itself when walking (thereby resulting in this shimmying motion).

The article also makes mention that the IR sensors can detect movement. I'm wondering if that means it can detect objects and movement separately or just objects that have moved close enough to its front.

I had heard earlier that the actual roboreptile was supposed to use AAA batteries along with its remote, but now it seems that the robot may use AA (just like raptor) instead. The weight was orignally a concern I suppose.

Unfortuantely, the article says don't expect roboreptile until july (wasn't it originally forcasted for june?).

Ok, I just went on Amazon.com and some other retail sites that are listing the Roboreptile. The posted release dates vary from July 3rd to August 1st. And the pictures also vary. There seems to be two models of the roboreptile featured in pictures: the prototype and the retail version. The retail version seems to be the one shown in the latest video and will probably be sold. The prototype is the one that was pictured in the article I talked about in my previous post and seen in pictures several months ago. The primary differences seem to be:

1. The retail model has two nostrils (IR Sensors?) on the end of its snout while the prototype has none.
2. The prototype features 2 toes pointed forward, one toe pointed back on the front paws while the retail features three toes pointed forward and none pointed back.
3. The prototype features two large toes on its hind paws while the retail features three large toes (one pointed inwards) on its hind paws.
4. The prototype had 8 segments in its neck and a smaller body while the retail version has 7 segments in its neck and a larger (fatter) body.
5. THe prototype has a longer eye slit while the retail has a shorter one. Retail one also has a small black dot behind the jaw.

Overall, IMHO the prototype looks better, sleeker, and more agile. I guess we'll have to see which model will be sold in July.
