Has anyone effectively replaced the remote with an embedded computer.
Instead of using the remote, unplug the Ir receiver and attach an embedded computer to be the brain that will send commands to the main board. This way AI can be programmed for the robot. Although there will still be issues with it's blindness; but I think using utrasonic rangefinders or cameras can fix that problem.
It's not simple, but if this could possibly be implemented it would be fun to create some sort of intelligence for the robot (obviously a lot of programming would be involved, but I don't think the setup would be *too* difficult).
Has anyone done anything like this?
Thanks. |

duffolonious,
I haven't seen anybody do any major projects with the Roboreptile yet. Plenty of people have done things like with the Robosapien and a few with the Roboraptor, but not the Roboreptile. My understanding is that the innards of the Roboreptile, like WowWee's other robots, are clearly labeled so a motivated hacker could give it a go. |

It is pretty well labelled (and not *that* many) connections.
Nonetheless, the one I have has a different layout and wire color scheme than on Nocturnal's site. It would be nice if a version is mark on the RoboReptile somewhere. I noticed this when I unplugged the speakers (the noise this thing makes is annoying).
And after googling it doesn't look like much has been done for the RoboReptile or the RoboRaptor - I guess I'll look at RoboSapien. |

duffolonious,
The number of hacks for the Robosapien V1 do indeed way outnumber all the other robots. The only other serious hack categories are the LED style hacks for the V2 and the Sprocket2Cog's Roboraptor hack:
